TEHRAN – The participants of the two-day World Conference on Youth and Islamic Awakening, which was brought to a close at Tehran’s Milad Tower on Monday, issued a final statement in which they said that the thoughts of the late Imam Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, inspired the Islamic Awakening movement. 

 

More than 1200 young people from 73 countries attended the conference. 

 

Following are excerpts of the statement: 

 

The Islamic Revolution led by Imam Khomeini, the great revivalist of Islam in contemporary history, inspired Islamic movements and provided depth to Islamic thought.   

 

The role of global powers in suppressing popular uprisings and their efforts to hinder the Islamic movement and misdirect the Islamic Awakening movement to serve their illegitimate interests is common knowledge. So, remaining vigilant about conspiracies and vigilantly monitoring and noticing plots and the policies of the global arrogance (forces of imperialism) and international Zionism is a must for and should be a priority for the Islamic Awakening movement. 

 

The defeat that the United States and occupation forces in Iraq and Afghanistan experienced and the victory of the resistance of Lebanon and Palestine against the Zionist regime manifested the power of the faith and resilience of Muslim people of the region and provided hope for the Islamic Awakening against dictatorship and foreign interference. 

 

The rage of and the passive (stance) adopted by the enemies of Islam at and toward the Islamic Awakening is indicative of the power and the influential status of Islam in the world. 

 

The West’s media campaign meant to promote Islamophobia and present a vague and distorted image of religious values and the Islamic Awakening and the exaggeration of the power of international Zionism is a known tool used to intimidate the people of the Muslim world, particularly the youth, and the conspiracy should be foiled through vigilance and tact.  

 

The Palestinian issue and Palestine’s glorious Islamic resistance against the Zionist regime, as the most important issue of the Muslim world, has become one of the pillars of the Islamic Awakening movement and has had a pivotal role in its development, and meanwhile it (the Islamic Awakening) has been influenced by the achievements of this widespread movement in the Muslim world. 

 

Now that the Islamic Awakening movement has emerged victorious in certain regional countries, it is necessary that faithful and revolutionary people be used to run the affairs of the society, and the use of elements subservient to foreign powers and previous regimes at countries’ important institutions should be avoided. 

 

In addition, the participants of the conference called for the adoption of decisions on the following points by the World Assembly of the Islamic Awakening: 

 

- The continuation of the holding of conferences of the World Assembly of the Islamic Awakening with the participation of the youth, particularly females; 

 

- The launch of a social network in cyber space to help the youth of the Muslim world be in contact with each other, deepen their thoughts, and share their experiences; 

 

- The launch of a website named Islamic Awakening to be used by Muslim youth; 

 

- The establishment of a strategic research center on the Islamic Awakening; 

 

- The formation of a council for coordinating the youth (affairs) by the World Assembly of the Islamic Awakening; 

 

- The launch of an independent satellite network or the use of current television networks to publish reports and true analyses of the developments of the Islamic Awakening. 

 

The young people participating in the conference also thanked Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei for his stance toward the Islamic Awakening and Iran’s decision to host the conference.
